Using an Antique Writing Desk in a Modern Décor
Antique writing desks were usually made of dark and strong wood. This makes it a little difficult to fit in with modern light coloured furniture and décor. But if paired well and in the right position, it can add to the beauty of the room where it is placed.
Contrast the other colour schemes of the room to the antique writing desk. Let all the other décor including the wallpaper of the room be of a light colour with just a tinge of brown or no brown in it. This will give it a cooling effect and not make the room look too full. If the other décor is as dark or darker than the writing desk it may give a feeling of the walls closing in on you.
Pair the desk with one antique chair so that it seems like a pair and intended to be so, rather than an out of place thing. One chair antique while all the other chairs of modern stature is the right way to go about this.
Antique writing desks are generally stronger and sturdier than the modern ones. Which means you can dump all your heavy goods on it and it will still be standing.
Make sure the desk is not in the centre of the room, but instead on one side or corner backed by a light coloured wall. Useful yet pretty and elegant is the look that we are going for. A non functional desk just looking pretty is of no use to us.
