Crafted in England around 1880, the desk is an outstanding example of Chinese Chippendale design. The area of Chinese Chippendale furniture design was celebrated for its bold fusion of Eastern and Western influences. The desk is built from rich, hand-carved mahogany and it still glows with a beautifully mellow patina. The rectangular top is bordered with a delicately moulded edge. It comes with a luxurious black tooled leather writing surface. Its intelligent design provides both style and practicality for the modern or traditional home office.
Beneath the writing surface lies a trio of carved drawers, all mahogany-lined and complete with their original brass fret handles and fully functional locks. A rare bonus: the original key still accompanies the piece—an uncommon find for furniture of this age.
