Early 19th-century Regency Period Carved Walnut Stool

An early 19th century, Regency period carved walnut and needlework foot stool, retaining excellent colour and patina. Featuring a rectangular petit-point floral needlework upholstered seat above a shaped and scrolled foliate-edged seat frame and held in place by brass closing nailing around the periphery. The stool has four delightfully and crisply carved cabriole legs, the scrolling hips carved in the manner of an opening flower, with a carved scallop shell to the knee, terminating in claw-and-ball feet. A particularly fine example, of note is the most unusual form to the top of the legs and the excellent carved detailing throughout. England c.1820.
