Attractive 19th-century Victorian period Mahogany Tall Letter Box

A tall, attractive, late 19th-century Victorian period figured mahogany country house post box or letter box. It features a moulded top above a hinged door with a brass plate engraved 'Letters' and a shuttered posting slot. The door, which has a working lock and key, includes a glazed aperture showing the times of collections. Mailboxes of this type were fixtures in the entrance halls of every Victorian and Edwardian country house, where guests and residents would deposit letters to be collected by the postman frequently each day. In good original condition.
