A mid 20th Century Mahogany Inlaid Console Table by Arthur Brett & Sons
An elegant late 20th century console table by Arthur Brett & Sons. This refined piece combines classic English design with excellent modern cabinetmaking. Executed in richly toned figured mahogany with inlay to the shaped top. The console offers a superb, finely finished shaped top surface above three drawers, a smoothly running centre drawer flanked by two dummy drawers, all fitted with brass accent handles. It stands on slender, tapered legs, lending a crisp, tailored look and underlining the quality of the construction.
Although this is not the type of piece I usually offer, I was particularly struck by the standard of craftsmanship, the sharpness of the inlay and its strong decorative presence. I acquired this console from a large private estate in Surrey.
This is a versatile, timeless console, ideal for an entrance hall, living room, dining room or study. Elegant yet practical, it is designed to be both used and admired, and to give pleasure for many years to come.
