An exceptional and very rare late 19th-century English Aesthetic Movement writing table or desk in the Moorish taste, finely executed in carved walnut with exquisite geometric inlay. The rectangular top is centred by a striking mother-of-pearl medallion with intricate arabesque design, framed by a galleried edge with delicate geometric inlay and ebonised corner blocks. The front is fitted with a wide drawer, richly carved with scrolling motifs and retaining its original turned round pulls. The case is adorned with dramatic open fretwork panels in the Moroccan / Moorish style, showcasing highly skilled pierced carving. Elegantly turned legs, terminating in round peg feet, complete the strongly architectural silhouette.
