A stunning late 18th-century George III period solid mahogany architect's desk. Finished in the round, the top slants up for reading or cantilevers up for either reading or writing while standing. The top drawer opens to reveal a leather-topped writing slide with six labeled inlaid correspondence compartments and two secret compartments. The desk stands on two pedestals with oak-lined graduated drawers and a curved plinth base with brass castors. It features original Bramah locks and turned brass knob handles. Made in England circa 1790, it is not stamped but is very much in the manner of Gillows of London. The desk boasts an amazing colour and patina to the solid Cuban mahogany.
