18TH CENTURY COUNTRY HOUSE MAHOGANY BUREAU BOOKCASE, C1770

Charming late 18th-century George III Period Country House Mahogany Bureau Bookcase

A stunning quality 18th-century George III period mahogany country house bureau bookcase, retaining its original patina and rich colour. This well-proportioned piece features a moulded cornice above a pair of astragal glazed doors with central panels showcasing mercury-backed mirrors, enclosing two adjustable shelves.

The flamed mahogany fall front opens to reveal a beautifully fitted interior with secret drawers and a green inset leather writing surface. Below, there are four long graduated drawers with pine and oak liners, providing ample storage. The piece stands on its original low bracket feet and is adorned with original brass swan-neck handles.

This bureau bookcase comes with locks and working keys, making it a superb example of Georgian craftsmanship dating from around 1770. It also includes black-and-white photographs with a BADA compliment slip, illustrating the piece in its previous dwelling.
