A wonderful and characterful late 18th-century portable painted carved oak bureau or bible box on a stand. The piece features carved detail throughout, predominantly floral with some reeded ornate shaped carvings at the base. The top has a moulded edge and chip carving on the sides. The fall front retains its original hinges and a large handsome iron lock plate, enclosing a partitioned interior with pigeon holes. The base includes two long drawers, each adorned with lovely brass tear drop handles and brass backplates. The bureau stands on bun feet and displays a stunning colour and patina.
