A superb quality late 19th century carved mahogany Gainsborough armchair, the camel high back flanked by arms with upholstered elbow pads and carved animal figures raised on carved scrolled uprights, the drop in seat above a wide foliate carved frieze and raised on correspondingly carved cabriole legs terminating in scrolled carved animal figure feet. The beautiful carving on all the mahogany show parts of the frame are an important indication of the outstanding quality of this rare example. England circa 1880. The upholstery has not been changed as is in good condition, of a neutral tone, this could however easily be changed to a fabric of choice once purchased. This armchair is in very good condition for age, is of stable construction and can go straight into a home.
